Whatever you are feeling, it’s okay and it’s normal… In this video, I share my personal experience with emotions because it is important that we talk about our feelings to normalize them, no more ‘I’m fine’. It is okay to not be/feel okay and allow/accept our feelings as they come…that is the key to letting them go (and letting them go actually means processing and recovering from them – it can be quick or like riding the longest, crappiest roller coaster… which usually depends on a number of things like coping skills, stress physiology/overwhelm, beliefs, and external circumstances outside of our control).
One day I’m great, getting things done, and the next I’m exhausted for no reason and unable to focus long enough to accomplish the most basic tasks. I feel sadness and grief rising on and off like waves…at first grieving ‘normalcy’ and connection with loved ones I’m physically separated from, then shifting into rising tides of old grief from my past.
I am telling you this because I feel that it is important to normalize our feelings and state of being during this completely unprecedented time in our lives. Whatever you are feeling – loving the slower pace or silence, a break from the daily grind…feeling fear, loss, grief, ill health, or vulnerability/anxiety of experiencing the virus/being (or of being at risk for complications)…or exhaustion/stress of putting yourself at risk in your essential worker…or navigating financial hardships from furlough/job loss – it is okay to feel it. It is normal right now. These feelings will pass, as is the nature of emotions to be temporary and fluctuating with our circumstances…
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t confusing and sometimes hard to understand, or even identify. Being under emotional, financial, health, or any ongoing stress makes it harder to process things, even your own thoughts and feelings. I spoke more about this topic and shared my own experience navigating unexpected, sometimes intense emotions in this video…I hope it is helpful.
